Merciful Monday

My boys go to a small home-school co-op. One of their teachers, Mrs. Cott, grants her classes "Merciful Monday" which means that the kids get a little extra latitude on the first day of the week since they are readjusting to being back at school after the weekend. That's what I needed today. Hard to get my head back in the game after all that celebrating and chocolate.

This is Mark's Great-Grandmother Pearl Garey who died when his grand-dad was a toddler. I can see Mark in her expression. So strange that I can see a resemblance in the child of a grandchild she never knew.

A Good Mom Would Be Dying Eggs

Here's what I did today: painted 25 6" x 6" canvases for my Micro Media Collage Class - due to a last second upgrade suggested by an ex-friend.

With just one week until MIU and the International Quilt Festival in Chicago, I'm whipping myself up into a pre-show frenzy as any neurotic, mildly paranoid, self-doubting artist is prone to do.

So here's the upgrade: Not only will I be leading our happy group of intrepid media-mixers in the creation of 1.5" square collaged chipboard tiles, but (apparently) I will also be showing them how to use it in a larger piece that will include the canvases above. In the interest of time, I have base coated the canvases - but don't worry there's still PLENTY to do in that chock-full hour.

I will be in the Virtual Studio (really) from 10 to noon on Friday the 13th, charming you all with my wit, good looks, and soft spoken humility. My class is at 1:30 -- right, Pokey? Have to check on that one, in the meantime here's a riddle:
What's turquoise blue, hard, shiny and rolls?
No silly, not an Easter egg, my new suitcase! Duh.
I got this little beauty to transport my art and supplies to and fro and that's the important thing -- not remembering what time my class is being held. Details!

Springy Thingies

I love using the Wholey Paper from Random Arts, it's so versatile. You can use it as a stencil by inking through the holes and then use the negative of the stencil and brayer the inked side of the paper to create the look under the nest.

This background was created using three ink colors and the Wholey Paper as described above. Bunny ears for the skeleton? Why not? The dead are no longer dead because of Easter.

I added links in my link-o-rama for a couple more of my cyber pals, I mentioned Dear Daisy Cottage yesterday, but Kim, Maggie May, and Marley are definitely worth mentioning again. Trumpet and Maggie May are e-dating.

I virtually met e.beck today, a kindred mixed-up media artist with an aversion to punctuation. Her flickr gallery is chock-full of her colorful work. We also have twins in common.

Easter Vignettes

1. I have two children - twin boys.
2. I love gingham.
See my dilemma?

I am forced to restrict my checkered fetish to the girlie guest room and seasonal holiday purchases. And to the occasional daily tile. Here are some of my Easter goodies. I'm no Dear Daisy Cottage, but I hope you will enjoy.

My M-in-L Carol bought me this little chick.
He nests in an admittedly tarnished sterling mug from Lakewood.
